What Exactly Is Standing Seam Roofing?

Thinking of Getting a Metal Roof?

Standing seam roofing

is made up of metal panels that are held in place by metal clips. These are fastened to the roof by a screw and will snap over the metal roof panel edges. A thin metal cover will then be placed over the joints in order to make them watertight. The thin covers will stop any snow, water, and ice from seeping between the panels.

Many commercial buildings have a standing seam roof due to their durability and easy installation. A properly installed system will sometimes outlast other kinds of roofs. An extra benefit of a commercial building is the choice of colors available, which can be used to showcase a company’s colors. In windy or harsh areas, a standing seam roof also performs better than other types such as a rubber or shingled roof.

Most of today’s family homes have these roofs as they can also offer a more retro look. The standing seam roof does resemble the components used on 18th-century homes, and unlike asphalt shingles, the panels of a standing seam roof will not rot or blow off during a severe storm. An occasional re-painting may be needed in order to cover any scratches or sun damage. While the earlier panels were made out of tin, today’s panels are made from higher-grade materials, which provide a more durable finished product.

To install metal roofing

over plywood, you first need to apply tar or felt-paper barrier between the plywood and metal. Once this is done, you will then be able to place the first metal panel. These are usually secured by snapping the edge into a clip and then screwing it to the roof. Another panel will then be placed next to the first and snapped into place. A narrow piece of metal will be snapped over each standing seam, and mounting clips are used to prevent water from seeping into the roof. If you are a resident of the Albuquerque, NM area
